Stephens Rickard
Environmental Commitments
At Stephens Rickard, we are fully committed to operating a sustainable business and doing the right thing in an environmental, social and governance context.
From our involvement in initiatives that include, partnering with organisations which promote social mobility; replanting kelp on the seabed to stimulate biodiversity; driving diversity and inclusion in the workplace; and partnering with mental health and wellbeing organisations to our transparency in our work and the type of businesses we work with, we have a robust internal and external ESG strategy that goes far beyond vacuous virtue signalling.
Our drive to contribute toward the creation of a sustainable planet
As we all should be, we at Stephens Rickard are cognizant of the effect our everyday, business related, or other actions are having on the condition of our planet. We actively pursue initiatives that can contribute toward the reversal, or at the very least, slowing down of climate change.
During the COVID-19 pandemic our staff began to work from home, a practice we transitioned to seamlessly. We now operate a hybrid model, as studies have shown that working from home reduces the number of cars on the road and energy usage in the office, significantly reduces carbon emissions and the use of fossil fuels. This, combined with the positive mental effect it can have on people, has led us to our long-term hybrid working strategy.
We also encourage each other and those around us to follow ‘green’ practices when possible, including a strong focus recycling in and outside the office.
Moreover, as of 2022, we have begun a close partnership with GreenTheUK and the Blue Marine Foundation to restoration of kelp forests in Sussex.

Kelp forests once stretched 40 kilometres along the Sussex coastline, creating one of the most productive and biodiverse environments on the planet. Kelp forests provide shelter, feeding and nursery grounds for many marine species including cuttlefish, lobster, seabream and bass. Kelp also has the potential to store carbon, aiding in the fight against climate change, while improving water quality and reducing coastal erosion by absorbing the power of ocean waves.
Since 1987 however, over 96 per cent of Sussex’s kelp had been destroyed due to years of destructive trawling and other human pressures. Blue Marine is working with partners across Sussex to deliver the Sussex Kelp Restoration Project. A breakthrough came with the Nearshore Trawling Byelaw which was successfully introduced in 2021 to prohibit trawling. The area protected by the byelaw covers over 300 square kilometres of seabed with the aim for recovery of the lost kelp forest and protection of essential fish habitats and fish populations.
Extensive research is needed to monitor the impacts and benefits of the byelaw. Key research includes Baited Remote Underwater Video surveys to monitor mobile underwater species. Stephens Rickard is supporting five sites where these surveys will be carried out this summer, and we look forward to sharing updates on the restoration project in the autumn.

Social Commitments
Our efforts to improve the lives and wellbeing of our employees and the communities around us.
We take great pride and commit active effort to support the lives of those who work for us, with us and around us.
We stick to our values, encourage and promote healthy work life balances within our business, and commit a portion of revenue to worthy, charitable causes.
Our passion and commitment to diversity and inclusion manifests itself in many ways – all the searches we conduct include a diversity report on the relevant market segment.
We also strongly believe in the importance of promoting social mobility and have a partnership, through our employees, with Career Ready, a registered charity that supports secondary school aged pupils from less advantaged backgrounds to gain insights into the world of work that are not often readily available.
